I was stationed in Newfoundland with the U.S. Navy in the 1950's and developed a fondness for all Newfoundlanders. Everything that Alan wrote brought me back to rural Newfoundlanders and how different their lives were from us in the U.S. This book is a keeper to be reread again.
Knowing Alan and Great Big Sea, I'm not at all surprised that I loved this book. I'm so glad he wrote it as he speaks - with such great panache. I am also very glad he didn't stick with that ridiculous mustache! A great read for any Great Big Sea fan or biography fan.

Awesomely funny, well written, hard to put down. Gives you great insight on where GBS comes from. I've been to New Foundland and have put it on my bucket list for a return visit. It is a unique place with a most unique people.
Alan's book is positively magical...finished it in one sitting and felt like I'd been transported to a Newfoundland kitchen party, visiting with a dear friend instead of the star of one of my favorite bands! My Newfie family lives all over the Rock, from St. John's to Tor's Cove to the Burin Peninsula, while my husband, son, and I live far away in San Antonio, Texas. Thank you, Alan, for giving me a mini-vacation to a place that is dear to my heart! Can't wait for the sequel! There will be a sequel, right?!
A great trip from inception to the rise to the top of the Newfoundland Celtic folk rock band Great Big Sea. Alan Doyle is a very positive and gifted storyteller. Funny, stories of a musical trip through Canada. You will not be disappointed.
Easy read. The book flows with Mr. Doyle's matter-of-fact style. We learn much about life in the fishing towns of The Maritimes. We learn about humble folk and their ways. Mr. Doyle also describes his musical career. No matter Mr. Doyle's success in life, he is a simple gentleman.
