Out of Time eBook Loretta Livingstone
I remember wondering if my ancestors gazed at the same spots as I traveled across England. What an amazing journey it would be to travel back through time and see the remnants of life as our ancestors saw it. This book gave me a glimpse into a time in life there when my ancestors served the King and fought for a nation against foreign interests.Marion is rather bored as she waits for daughters Chloe and Shannon to tour what's left of the old abbey, so she takes her book out of the car to try to find a shady spot to read. What she finds "blows her mind." She is immediately transported from the year 2006 back into the year 1191.
Giles de Soutenay is desperately trying to prove his allegiance to John as the military troupe nears the abbey. It's then that the unthinkable happens and the destiny of a country lies in the hands of a woman from the future who more closely sembles a wood fairy than any human these people have seen before. I loved Hildegard, the Abbess and her understanding of the human spirit.
Ms. Livingstone's research and attention to detail are first-rate. The dialogue changes would be difficult for any author, but she handles them with great care. The lessons learned throughout the book of family love, challenges, duty, and courage are timeless. Well done!

Out of Time eBook Loretta Livingstone Reviews
I loved this story it has clever dialogue, the history is brought to life and the timeslip element is exciting, intriguing and perhaps even more important - very believable. (Although maybe there are a couple of quibbles about plausibility....but these sort of quibbles could be applied to any timeslip-type novel and this is fiction - good fiction at that!)
My only regret is that the story wasn't longer - when something is written as well as this you really don't want the end to come too soon!
As Managing Editor of the Historical Novel Society Indie Reviews I was delighted that Out Of Time received the well deserved accolade of Editor's Choice and is therefore automatically longlisted for the HNS Indie Award 2016.
Loved it. I felt like i was right in the story. Recommend it highly. Anxiously awaiting book 2!
A fun romp through centuries. Engaging characters.
A sweet time travel story. In the beginning the names were a bit confusing. The writing was excellent.
4.5 stars for this compelling time-travel story. Marion from 2006 is sent by a magical tree to the year 1191 to save an important historical figure's life. The peril this causes, both to Marion and Sir Giles, makes this book difficult to put down. Both major and minor characters of both times are well-drawn, and the ending is thought-provoking and resonates with this reader's heartstrings. The occasional head-hopping was a bit distracting, but the pace moved steadily, neither too slow nor too fast. Recommended for anyone who is intrigued by time travel and/or 12th century England.
“Out of Time” by Loretta Livingstone is a sweet time traveling story. Marion Heart, a mother who I could easily identify with, accidently travels back in time to 1191. I bought a copy of this book because I am fascinated by time travel, and in this period of time, although I don’t know much about it. Livingstone really studied what went on in this time period in Britain and aimed to be historically accurate. I think she was a little too worried to have the information perfect when reading her notes at the back of the book. It’s okay for a fiction book to not follow facts exactly, authors have poetic license where they can change things to fit their story. I was amazed at the simplicity of this time travel story, usually time travel can be a tricky thing to convey, but Livingstone does it understandably. I found the writing a little choppy at first, but half way through the book things got a little smoother. John is the antagonist, yet his life is critical to the future of England. Like all the characters in Livingston’s book, he is interesting and well developed. While Marion is in a tense situation, I felt the story could have used a more riveting aspect. It was still well done, and I found it a pleasant read. If you like feel-good stories, I recommend this book.
One of the trickiest plots to write involves time travel, especially into the past. Authors must ensure the storyline meshes with historical events, and there are many anomalies and hidden traps that can spring out when dealing with the complexities of changing what has already happened (or are the changes what really happened?) Missing a minor plot hurdle can quickly cause a story to spin hopelessly out of control.
Thankfully, there are no major Fatal Flaws with Loretta Livingstone’s “Out of Time.” The story is whimsical, dealing with a woman being transported back to twelfth century England. Her travel (as well as her arrival date in the past) has importance, and the author deftly weaves in enough history to make the story credible.
There are instances of danger, and the plot has enough movement to keep the story moving, although sometimes at a pace that was slightly slower than I would have wished. Fortunately, Ms. Livingstone’s writing is engaging enough to keep the reader interested all the way to the end. There was one instance where I felt the time element and connection between 1191 and 2006 didn’t work as well as I might have hoped, but it is minor and thus doesn’t detract from the story.
This is a quick enjoyable tale, and is a book that can be read by readers of all ages. Four stars.
